Good morning, all! Father, we come to humbly this morning because we know we have nothing to offer the Creator of the universe nothing but our heart. We pray Lord that You search our heart this morning and if there be any wrong way in us then help us, deliver us, for we know that You alone are the Savior of the world, Amen.
Isaiah 41
17 [When] the poor and needy seek water, and [there is] none, [and] their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
When the desperate and thirsty seek water and they’ve exhausted all options and they are now dying of thirst, I the Lord will HEAR them, I the God of My chosen will NOT forsake them.
18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
I will OPEN rivers in good times and bad; I will make a pool in what looks impossible and in the driest land springs.
19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, [and] the pine, and the box tree together:
I will plant new life in the wilderness, you will find all kinds of different trees, but they will grow TOGETHER.
20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
And these trees will SEE and KNOW and give thought and come to the same conclusion TOGETHER, that the hand of the Almighty the Holy One we serve created it.
Bottom line
So who are the poor and needy?
[Psa 40:17 KJV] But I [am] poor and needy; the Lord thinketh upon me: thou [art] my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. This of course is King David’s prayer to God, he was the king of all Israel…he paid for all the materials for Solomon’s temple to be built, which if it existed today would be the most expensive structure in the world. So maybe God’s NOT speaking about our bank account or being able to pay our bills? What made David poor and needy? First, he acknowledges he needs the Lord’s help, but he also knows he can’t afford to pay God what He’s worth…he is poor. What could we possibly pay the Creator of the universe? It’s total submission of the heart which is all we have…the good news it’s all God wants anyway. Second, what makes us needy? We all face trials and tribulations every day and we need God to deliver us NOT our own manipulation of every situation. When was the last time you asked God to think about you? Notice David didn’t ask for anything specific, like a new house, a new job, he didn’t even ask Him to deliver him whatever trouble he was facing. Strange? Or perhaps David knows something more, maybe his relationship with God is so strong and so firm that he has total trust that God already knows the intimate details of his life and already has a plan for him and David has total trust and confidence that God will do what He does best when He thinks of him…LOVE him. Are we all poor and needy this morning? There was a qualifier in verse 17, has our tongue failed? Is God the only thing that will satisfy your thirst this morning? If so, God will HEAR you and will NOT forsake you. This is when God opens the flood gates of heaven and produces new life in the land. What’s this new life like? It would appear there’s new growth, all kinds of trees in what would appear to be a barren land…sounds like a miracle to me. Now it also tells us that these trees while each different and unique in their own way, are UNITED, and they acknowledge, consider and understand. We acknowledge the CROSS first and consider what it accomplished…our righteousness and understand why…God’s mercy. How did we end up in the wilderness? In the dry land?
[Psa 68:6 NASB20] God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious live in dry lands. What do you know? The dry land is me when I don’t listen to God. What didn’t I hear?
[Psa 37:21 KJV] The wicked take, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. The righteous find it in their heart to forgive and GIVE it but the wicked TAKE God’s mercy but pay it NOT again, why? Simple, they’re SELFISH. When you and I don’t forgive others, it is the most selfish act one can commit assuming you believe in Calvary and know we’re forgiven. Why do you think the trees understand TOGETHER? Psalm says righteousness and peace kiss…no way to kiss unless you forgive but just like the song says love will keep us together, make sure they kiss.
Point to Ponder
What makes us a tree in His garden? [Isa 61:3 KJV] To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. The Lord knows what He planted inside of us, time to trade pity for praise!
Let’s all be poor and needy, In Him
