Safe Place
Good morning all!
Father, we know that You alone are the One that keeps Your saints safe. You are Creator and Protector, You are the God of Shalom our perfect peace. We know Lord the view in the world might raise some doubt at times, but we ask You to lift us up today, to lift our spirit, to increase our faith and allow us to walk like giants, Amen. What is the safe place?
Jude 1
Jde 1:21 NLT – And await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.
The only safe place is in God’s love for us, this is why we wait on His mercy through the tough times and when all is said and done, He will give you eternal life…we can’t earn it.
Jde 1:22 NLT – And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.
Armed with this truth we should have the strength to show others mercy when their faith wavers…it happens to us all…but mercy makes the difference.
Jde 1:23 NLT – Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
And we should rescue others from the flames of judgment NOT fan the flame. And continue to show mercy to others but do so with caution NOT getting caught up in the affairs of the world.
Jde 1:24 NLT – Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
And when you do, don’t look to take credit, God should ALWAYS get the glory…after all He’s the One that keeps you from losing hope with joy and never finds any fault with us.
Bottom line
Have you found your safe place?
Psa 31:8 NLT – You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place. The only safe place you and I have is in Christ Jesus, it’s NOT a place it’s person. Do you have access to that person? Sure, faith says you do. Didn’t Jesus say He would leave us a Comforter forever to be with us in times of trouble? And the only way for us to have access He had to leave this earth? We have a Comforter with us today and best I can tell He has one job to do…COMFORT us. Now can anyone be comfortable if they don’t feel safe? No, of course not. So, if we have the Comforter with us always maybe we should always feel safe, right? And maybe my safety has nothing to do with the way I might feel on certain days and everything to do with the Comforter that walks with us always. What do you suppose might cause us not to feel safe?
Lam 1:9 NIV – Her filthiness clung to her skirts; she did not consider her future. Her fall was astounding; there was none to comfort her. “Look, LORD, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed. This is speaking of the Church, it would appear that she’s wearing some dirty clothes, and nobody could comfort her. But she’s smart enough to pray, however, she tells the Lord to look at her pain because the enemy gotten the best of her-Ha! What happened to the safe place? The dirt on the church’s clothes could be many things, fear, worry, bitterness, retaliation, self-pity. We have to pray like David and ask the Lord don’t let those enemies dirty up my clothes, don’t let them become a reflection of my lifestyle by how I respond. It’s easy to let thoughts and feelings cling to us and when they grab hold of us, we fall, we fall from God’s Grace and we don’t live by faith, we live by our feelings instead. Living by faith means we reject those feelings and trust God and His word; this is what should guide us through life’s afflictions. This is the message Paul is speaking about in Jude, he’s telling the church don’t become contaminated with these feelings otherwise you also need to be saved from the flames. I mean if heaven is on earth than hell has to be on earth also, you know how we stay out of the flames? We don’t judge others when their faith wavers, we don’t fan the flames of criticism and become judgmental of them. What should we do? Be the safe place for them. What makes God our safe place? He doesn’t find one single fault with us. Do you suppose that’s what mercy looks like? Maybe instead of finding fault in others and adding to the flames, we should pull them from the fire by showing them mercy and making them as safe as possible.
Point to Ponder
You have your sneakers on today? Pro 18:10 KJV – The name of the LORD [is] a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and is safe. Run from those fleeting emotions and find comfort in His promise.
