Good morning, all!
Father, open our eyes and heart this morning to receive Your wisdom and grace. Let us look to You first in all we do and trust that You alone hold the power and authority to life. Help us Lord to live by this truth, to know who we are and what You’ve created us to be, Amen.
Colossians 3
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
If you have chosen to live a new life as Christ, search for the things of God where the One we serve sits at the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Set your mind on living by faith and don’t be influenced by the things of the world.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
For that life is dead and your life is HID with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
When Christ WHO is our life appears in your lifestyle then you will reflect Him and His glory.
Bottom line
Life is NOT a WHAT it’s a WHO, we spend most of our life focused on WHAT we want and not on WHO we are. This is what Paul is sharing with the people of Colosse, trying to get them to understand the WHO determines everything in life NOT the other way around. Scripture is pretty clear on this principle and yet the world still says otherwise, and many still pursue the what which is a futile life lived.
[Ecc 2:11 NIV] Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Remember Solomon was the wisest man, and he is also the one that wrote this verse, I believe many of the men and women of the Bible wrote about their experiences of course as directed by God. Solomon in the natural sense ACCOMPLISHED quite a bit by the world’s standard and he was the richest man, yet he states NOTHING was gained so he’s NOT speaking of financial gain. So, you could argue he was successful with an education, status, family, big job and lots of money but that’s NOT what he said, he said his life was like chasing of the wind…EMPTY!!! You want a life of fulfilment? It will only come from knowing WHO you are and living that truth. Of course, it must begin with our search for God, it has to look and feel different than the occasional Sunday sermon. Think about it, can you cram your life and who you are in one hour a week? It’s like saying you want to lose weight but you only diet one hour a week and the rest of the week eat whatever you want- HA!!! How hard do we search for God?
[Psa 119:10 NLT] I have tried hard to find you–don’t let me wander from your commands. I suspect what David is saying here is that our relationship with God is NOT singular, like any relationship and just like Rob Base sang “it takes two to make a thing go right”. Our search for God begins with us following His commands, like I don’t know…love your neighbor…forgive your neighbor. Make sense God asks us to live a life of faith to be called out from worldly thinking which if we’re honest is selfish, we don’t love one another never mind forgiving each other. Guess what? We have now wandered from God, what chance do we have of finding Him? What chance do we have to feel fulfilled?
[Eph 1:23 NLT] And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself. Do you see that? Uh oh, we have life so backwards. What makes us full…satisfied and complete…purpose? WHO fills ALL…EVERYWHERE, WHO’s not included? Jesus warned his disciples about not being satisfied, happy, fulfilled, He told them to be on guard from the pull of this world.
[Luk 12:15 KJV] And he said unto them, take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. We should spend more time looking for the WHO instead of the WHAT, if you do, you’ll find God and realize you will find your purpose and be satisfied.
Point to Ponder
Who has the final say? [Ecc 6:10 NLT] Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago who each person would be. So, there’s no use arguing with God about your destiny. Pretty clear here WHO has the final say…everything is everything.
Let’s all pray for who not what, In Him Phil
