It seems as if the “Lake of Fire” is a scary and painful place where none of us want to go to. It is described in the Bible as a place where the devil, hell and death will be thrown into by God. So far it seems to be a place of judgment and destruction for the enemies of our soul. We also discover in the Bible that the beast and the false prophet are also cast into the lake of fire.
It seems to be ironic that we all think that we want nothing to do with the lake of fire and yet the Bible teaches us to pray for the baptism of both water and fire. Maybe the water and fire (the lake of fire) is not some place to avoid but pray for. Maybe we need both the water and the fire to help us destroy the devil that is in our lives.
The Bible teaches us that the water is what God uses to continually cleanse us from all sin and the fire of God is used to change us, the fire changes how we think and act. Do you remember the Bible story about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? It is the account of three children of God that were thrown into a fiery furnace but were not harmed, only their enemies and chains of bondage were destroyed but they were delivered.
Maybe we should continue to pray for God to use both water and the fire in our lives until all of the enemies of our soul are destroyed? We pray for the baptism of water by asking God to forgive us and then we ask for the baptism of fire by asking God to change us, A-men.
May God give you peace.
