Father, what a wonderful day to know Your love for us is the only motivation You have to guide us through this life. We will never fully understand the depths and lengths of Your love for they are eternal Lord. Help us Lord the imagine how wonderful Your works are and how incredible is the power of Your love, Amen. How good is your imagination? Does a day go by where you don’t imagine something? It’s just like breathing, can you imagine?
Nahum 1
Nah 1:2 KJV – God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
God is a jealous God and wants ALL of you, the complete you…the healthy you, and anything that interferes with His relationship with you He’s going after it with a vengeance.
Nah 1:9 KJV – What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.
Why do you imagine God would do anything that doesn’t have your best interest at heart, God will end the affliction in your life and it ain’t coming back.
Nah 1:10 KJV – For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
And these thoughts that plague you’re mind they’re like a drunk that always has access to wine, well the thorns and the wine will be removed by the fire.
Nah 1:11 KJV – There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.
And the one with the wrong imagination is going to come out of YOU, he made God out to be evil and gave you the wrong counsel.
Nah 1:12 KJV – Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
And though these many thoughts may be quiet, God sees them and they will be cut down so they can’t grow again. I was the One that afflicted YOU, but the work is complete.
Bottom line
Imagination can be a blessing and it can also be a curse. We all imagine any number of things every day, including whether we have God’s presence in our life or perhaps His absence in our life. The prophet Nahum is a powerful book, he opens with how much God loves us just like a father protecting his children from harm or the strong husband defending his wife. Now Nahum’s message is directed to the church, it’s correcting the church from the wrong imagination. Who might that include?
Psa 62:3 KJV – How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. It’s includes ALL of ya’ll…after all God is no respecter of persons. In this picture God slays ALL of us just like a wall or a fence that comes down. Do you have some imaginary walls that exist in your life to keep certain people away from you? We all imaginary barriers to certain folks, and why? God tells us right there in the verse…we imagine mischief against them, we imagine the worst of people instead of the best of people. Now you know what happens when we think poorly of others, right? You now have a WICKED counsellor inside of you, and what do you think that wicked counsellor is going to tell you? It’s going to try and crucify that person, it ain’t inviting them over for dinner. Now before we start pointing the finger at all the wicked counsellors in life, we gotta point the finger right back at ourselves…God removes the wicked counsellor INSIDE of us, the problem is never outside of us meaning the people in our life. How else can they be quiet and yet still be many? It’s the quiet imagination that speaks to us always, in fact, it never has to speak a word and it still has the power to influence our life. Our imagination can be holy counsellor or a wicked counsellor just depends on how we want to use our imagination, for good or evil.
Pro 12:20 KJV – Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. Does your counsellor look to make peace with the people in your life? Or put up walls and avoid them? We think where putting up walls to the people that we are evil, in fact, we probably think we’re doing the Lord’s work by keeping them away. However, according to scripture that’s actually deceit in our heart…deception…deceived…just like the woman in the garden. What is deceived? Means we just got it wrong, we didn’t understand the love of God and faith and what His word actually says versus what we IMAGINE it says. Most folks including me, really don’t understand the God’s word, we think it says or doesn’t say a whole lot of stuff. Why do think God’s has to come in like a jealous God and take vengeance of this wicked counsellor in our heart, first it wreaks havoc on our relationship with God…what you think that wall you built just kept that person you don’t like out of your life? Ha! The first one that we lose with that imagination is God, you know where He went? To go comfort and heal the very one we rejected.
Hos 4:6 KJV – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. God doesn’t expect us to destroy one another, He’s looking for His priest to remember His law…love first and forgive always…imagine that.
Point to Ponder
Have you imagined God’s love? Psa 26:3 NIV – For I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness. God’s love can’t fail and you can live in His faithfulness…I would definitely rely on that truth.
Let’s all imagine unfailing love, In Him Phil
