Good morning all!
Father, we know that without You we’ll never get to the bottom of anything. Help us to find the bottom so we can build on the only foundation that will give is life, Your son Jesus Christ, Amen. I’m sure we’ve all faced a problem at some point in our life only to speak those words, I’m going to get the bottom of this.
Zechariah 1
Zec 1:8 KJV – I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that [were] in the bottom; and behind him [were there] red horses, speckled, and white.
In my darkest night I saw a MAN riding on a red horse, he came and stood among the MYRTLE trees in the BOTTOM of the valley and BEHIND him were 3 different colored horses.
Zec 1:9 KJV – Then said I, O my lord, what [are] these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these [be].
Then, I asked what is all this? The angel said, I will SHOW you what they are.
Zec 1:10 KJV – And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These [are they] whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
All these horses are they that the Lord sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
Bottom line
Have you ever looked for something only to find out it was right under your nose the entire time? That’s basically what has happened to Zechariah in this passage, he finds himself at the BOTTOM of this valley and what do you suppose he found? God…faith…truth…revelation, it was holding him up the whole time. It happened in his night season, he has come to end of his rope sort of speak. I think it’s in this place that we tend to listen to God a little more often and have a little more conviction, right? Now in the vision the horses (which were used for war) are all BEHIND him, perhaps at the end of a grueling war, fight, battle we might finally find the bottom…the end?
Isa 63:3 NLT – “I have been treading the winepress alone; no one was there to help me. In my passion I have trampled my enemies as if they were grapes. In my fury I have trampled my foes. Their blood has stained my clothes. The man on the red horse is none other than Jesus Christ, He and His horse have won the war and they are covered with the blood of our enemies, spiritually speaking. What enemies did Jesus defeat on Calvary? Pride…Selfishness…Judgmental…Blame, anything that separates us from God and one another usually is the enemy…that which opposes God’s plan for life.
Psa 133:1 NIV – How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! You see they have just come out of captivity (rock bottom) and God tells them to go rebuild their city and the church. So, what the problem? Israel thought they could do it without Judah (2 tribes in the South). God’s NOT changing His plan, we can only have a good and pleasant life when we live together in UNITY not tolerance. Step 1 in the kingdom of God ISN’T build the church and preach the gospel, that’s step 2. Step 1 is stay TOGETHER, step 2 is now go build the church. What was at the bottom of this valley? A Myrtle tree…might that be metaphor?
Isa 55:13 KJV – Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign [that] shall not be cut off. Call me crazy but maybe you and I need to be a Fir and Myrtle tree…God’s says they’re eternal and He won’t chop them down. The Fir tree INSTEAD of lying we’ll only speak the truth of God’s word and the Myrtle tree INSTEAD of being some dry bush in a desert void of forgiveness will be full of mercy. Thank God for the Myrtle tree, hold onto that INSTEAD…
Point to Ponder
Have you ever gone to and fro? Psa 107:27 KJV – They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. We all go to and fro until we’ve had our fill of whatever we think is going to bring happiness and then realize it’s a dead end without God.
Let’s all be the Myrtle tree, In Him Phil
