Good morning, all! Father, I pray that You would put a new song on our lips and a new tune in our heart. Let us be the expression of Your joy and love, let it ring out for all the world to hear so they might know the wonders of Your mercy and love. Thank You Lord for a new day, a new song, and a new life for we are born again, Amen.
Psalm 12
1 [[To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David.]] Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
The Conductor calls for a new song on the 8-string guitar…first verse of song, HELP Lord, for the godly man can’t find the right words and the FAITHFUL fail just like children among men.
2 They speak vanity everyone with his neighbour: [with] flattering lips [and] with a double heart do they speak.
Everyone…ALL…speak what is NOT true: with empty words spoken because their heart is confused.
3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, [and] the tongue that speaketh proud things:
The Lord will remove ALL manipulating words spoken and the tongue that speaks as though they are better than others.
4 Who have said, with our tongue will we prevail; our lips [are] our own: who [is] lord over us?
They say, “we know how to win the battle by what we say and how we say it. Our lips are our own–who can stop us?”
Bottom line
Have you ever heard the expression, sounds like a broken record? Well, this is what the Lord is dealing with in this Psalm. God Himself is in charge of Life’s symphony, He’s calling for a song to be played on an EIGHT stringed guitar…which calls for a NEW song a NEW beginning…how many people got off that ark after God CUT off the world with a flood? EIGHT…new beginnings. And how does the song begin? With only two words, the only two words in our life that truly matter…HELP LORD!!! And who else would we call for help? Listen church, if God is going to give us a new beginning, and new life it has to begin with the words we speak to each other, the words we speak to God. Did you notice who corrects our lips? The words we speak…and NOT just the words but also tongue that speaks proud…the HOW we speak to each other. Sometimes our words aren’t the problem but it’s how which God takes issue with. Is what and how we speak really that important?
[Pro 18:21 KJV] 21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: What is more powerful than death and life? It’s like
saying how important is air? Yeah, it’s the difference between life and death and yet has anyone taken the air they breathe for granted? If I’m honest I can say the same thing about words I’ve spoken or get real honest, thoughts that I have had…I believe that was what David was expressing when he said “our lips are our own”, notice he said OUR and not MINE so he was speaking for all of us. And who will stop us? The same God that shut the mouth of lions, He can stop the king of the jungle but not king of the world? You want more proof…easy…anyone remember Zechariah? The father of John the Baptist, the angel Gabriel told him he would have a son…new life…but he didn’t believe it, he said how is that going to happen? And because he didn’t believe and questioned God the angel told him he would NOT be able to speak until his son was born. So, who shuts his mouth? Yeah God. I pray you take comfort in the passage this morning, I know I have said things I wished I never said, and I truly want the Lord’s forgiveness. Of course, He does but greater than that He is the One that changes our tune, the what we say and how we say it. And according to this passage HE said everyone…that’s a lot of us folk out here today. How do we begin this new life? Help Lord, if it doesn’t start with God, you got the wrong starting point. And did you notice who is going to FAIL? God said the FAITHFUL…isn’t that an oxymoron? Yup, and I find faith in most instances of my life to be an oxymoron so what makes us faithful and fail at the same time? Well, what would make us faithful…never give up…keep calling on God no matter what. What if you and I failing was just a part of bringing us to an end of things so that we would find a NEW beginning? And what if you and I failing but continuing to call on God each and every time begins to change what we say and how we say it over time until…I don’t know call me crazy we give birth to a son…Christ, the one we didn’t believe we would get in the first place. After John the Baptist was born God permitted Zechariah to speak again, and you know what he had to say? Oh, wow look at my boy, my new son…NOT even close.
[Luk 1:68, 71 KJV] Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us. The birth of his son REDEEMED his people NOT just him, and saved him from OUR enemies? What enemies were mentioned when the angel Gabriel came with the good news? OUR enemies that the LORD saves us from are our lips and tongue…the words we speak and the heart in which we express them. Zechariah spoke of redemption and salvation, you know salvation isn’t the sinners prayer? It’s all good that we prayed for it, but salvation speaks of being saved from our enemies which means they’re gone. And how do we know they’re gone? You don’t hear them talking any more…I have a new song in my heart that says BLESSED be the Lord of my life that redeemed me by giving me new words and a new heart and new beginning…you can’t have a NEW life if you still have enemies.
Point to ponder
Do you believe you’ve been redeemed? [Psa 71:23 KJV] 23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed. When God redeemed US that included our lips…they don’t call Him Redeemer for nothing…He has given US something to sing about.
Let’s all sing a new sing and give God the glory, In Him Phil
