Good morning all!
Father, we know that You alone are the author of love it doesn’t exist without You. Lord, we pray today all would experience Your love for Your word declares it is better than wine. We pray Lord the only thing that would intoxicate us today is Your love for there is truly nothing better than that in life, Amen. Better is such a broad term, this is better than that. So what is better? The only way it can be better is if God is in it.
Psalm 37
Psa 37:16 KJV – A little that a righteous man hath [is] better than the riches of many wicked.
Notice God didn’t say the more you get the BETTER you’ll be…just saying…so much for the worldly POV.
Psa 37:17 KJV – For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
And for those that spend their strength and energy getting riches, looks like we’re gonna have our arm in a sling-Ha!
Psa 37:18 KJV – The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
God always knows what day it is and He’s preparing the upright so they get their true riches…their inheritance…it can never run out.
Psa 37:19 KJV – They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
This is why the upright are NOT confused or ashamed when difficulty comes, it’s God’s judgment on the wicked but the upright will be satisfied even when the world may be starving.
Bottom line
How many have wished or prayed for that, a better life? And in our pursuit for the better life we look for more and yet the word of God declares the opposite. It’s not that having more makes us wicked no more than having little makes us righteous, it’s how much of our time and passion is in pursuit of those things. Most of us have jobs and work hard, and I can show you scripture that tells us that is righteous and we should do it unto the Lord, nothing wrong with working hard and earning a living for the family. So what’s the rub here? It’s our mind time. What do we spend the majority of our thoughts on?
Isa 26:3 KJV – Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. What is perfect peace? Simple it’s NOT broken, if I have peace today and worry tomorrow that’s not perfect. Notice what state of mind we should be in? STAYED on God! And what happens when we don’t? God’s judgment, He is the Judge and according to scripture the only One qualified to judge a heart…maybe that’s because He dwells in there.
Rev 19:11 KJV – And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. God is the faithful and true judge that rides into our heart and judges the wrong thoughts and emotions and then goes to war for us. When the bible speaks of famine that represents God’s judgment on the land, after all who controls the rain, sun and temperature of the world…God. The famine is a picture of our natural desires or emotions drying up like let’s say…greed…discontentment…worry…fear…you get the picture. These are the enemies of the Lord and that’s why He goes to war for us, to recapture our hearts so we’ll keep our mind stayed on Him and not the enemies of the heart. I don’t know but maybe that evil time showed up in our life just so it would bring us to the throne of God, maybe that difficulty came to help show my knees the floor so I would pray and make my request known to God. Most of us believe that God has our heart and I believe that’s true, but does He always have it? Do walk to the throne or run to it? Is it a joy or a chore? Call me crazy but I think God is so in love with us that a walk just won’t do anymore, it’s should be just like when the 5 o’clock whistle blows on a Friday afternoon and you can’t wait to go home and get cleaned up so you can go out on that date you waited all week for…now that’s keeping your mind on Him.
Point to Ponder
How does God really feel about us? Zec 1:14 NLT – Then the angel said to me, “Shout this message for all to hear: ‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: My love for Jerusalem and Mount Zion is passionate and strong. …any questions?
