Good morning all!
Father, we know we still have much to learn when it comes to You and Your kingdom. Our pray today is for things, first that You would birth a desire in us to learn more about You and the Kingdom by Your spirit and Your word. And second, teach us, enlighten the dark places of our understanding so that we might live with Your boldness and truth today, Amen.
Luke 6
39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
So Jesus told them a story to help them understand where He was coming from, if you repeat the same pattern as others…won’t BOTH fall in the grave?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
If you’re following ME…Jesus…the only way to live a perfect life is to SEE things the way I do…I’m NOT going to see it your way.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Why do you notice the imperfections in others and yet you SEE nothing wrong with living life that way.
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
The problem isn’t with what you see in others, the problem is in your heart. This is how a hypocrite views the world, they can easily find the bad and rarely see the good in others.
Bottom line
This is a pretty familiar passage, what makes it special I think is the fact that Jesus asks us some questions here. Isn’t that what great teachers do? Ask their students questions? You know, engaging and thought provoking. Jesus connects these questions to being PERFECT. You the student should eventually become like the teacher and become perfect. Now, you might say I’m not a disciple…you know NOT one of the twelve. According to scripture God expects us ALL to be His disciples, you don’t think He’s going to accept an empty classroom?
[Mat 28:19 NIV] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. How do you define ALL nations? I’m sure we can all think of our favorite teachers growing up and it should bring back warm and friendly teachable moments. Would it be any different for Jesus?
[Mat 13:52 NIV] He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old. Our teacher has given us treasures NEW & OLD…new is GRACE and old is TRUTH. What treasure did you think a teacher was handing out?
[2Ti 1:9 NIV] He has saved us and called us to a holy life–not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was GIVEN us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time and NOT because of ANYTHING we have done BUT His purpose and GRACE…that right there is a hallelujah moment. Is there any treasure older than before the beginning of time? God’s purpose for our life is GRACE according to our teacher and the only way we can SEE clearly is if we see as Jesus sees, mercy and truth. God’s word shouldn’t produce a beat down for others based on what they say or do, it should produce mercy in our life. Didn’t He say do NOT overcome evil with evil…blind leading the blind BUT overcome evil with good. Our life can’t be perfect if we’re running around looking or trying to find fault in others, that leads to a life of blindness. Why do you think Jesus asked them a question about blindness? When you find fault in others, you’re blind NOT perfect. So, how can we live a perfect life?
[Jhn 17:23 KJV] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. You want to be perfect, well the WORLD…that’s includes a lot of folks…they should SEE two things from you…first, that they are ONE with you…no division, no rejection and second, you LOVE them. You choose blindness or perfection…one leads to life and the other a grave.
Point to Ponder
What about your sacrifice? [Deu 15:21 KJV] And if there be [any] blemish therein, [as if it be] lame, or blind, [or have] any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God. You know we are the sacrifice…make sure it’s perfect.
Let’s all see through the eyes of grace, In Him Phil
