Good morning, all!
Father, let us never forget about Your love or the protection of Your shadow. May we never lose sight of heaven, of faith, of our salvation or the finished work of the cross. Let us give thanks this morning because Your mercy is never far from us and Your peace never ends, Amen
John 6
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Jesus told them, I am life giving, he that seeks me shall NEVER hunger and he that believes me shall NEVER thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
But even though you have seen me you don’t believe.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
ALL that the Father has given me, shall seek me and whoever comes to me I will NOT reject.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
For this reason, I have come down from heaven, NOT do what I want but to do the will of my Father.
Bottom line
What a great piece of scripture, this of course the words of Jesus Christ. I find them to be quite profound and filled with the promise of heaven which means they’re timeless and without limits. Nothing that is alive can live for long without food and water, they provide life and growth, right? So, what exactly is Jesus talking about here? I mean NEVER hunger or NEVER thirst, doesn’t that seem like a stretch given we eat and drink every day? But He did say NEVER and NEVER means just that…NEVER!!! Here’s what I see this morning, Jesus is the bread of LIFE…this is what He is…state of being. The bread speaks of our identity, who we are…why do you think He said you have SEEN me and believe NOT. Isn’t that the existential question of life, who are we? And right after that question the next one is so what’s my purpose? All of this is found in Jesus Christ, how can we find more of the answers? You want answers…I want the truth…you can’t handle the truth…yea, the great quote from a “Few good men”…makes sense Jesus said many are called but FEW are chosen…how few? ONE!!! Until we ALL find the One that is inside of us…CHRIST and our purpose we all wrestle with life and circumstances, we think we’ll find it based on what we know or what we have or how we feel BUT according to scripture we are ALL just like sheep that have gone astray looking for answers, for identity, for fulfilment. So, what’s the answer? FOLLOW the Shepherd, let Him guide us and feed us. So, what is our purpose? Become preachers? Be a missionary? Go to church five days a week? All of those things are nice, but that’s NOT our purpose in life, He said if we drink of His covenant we’ll NEVER thirst. So, we are to thirst for Jesus? Yes, He’s talking about relationships. Who does He want a relationship with? He said ALL that the Father has given Him…for God so loved the WORLD…all is all. And what happens when you and I come to Jesus? He tells us to go get our act together first? Get clean? Get right? NOT even close, Jesus will in NO wise cast us out…He will NOT reject us…hmm, you mean He really does want a relationship? What about if we’re in a mess? Do you remember the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross? Well, the fifth saying was “I thirst”…you know He didn’t want an actual drink? PURPOSE…He wanted us…He wants YOU!!! He don’t care how we come and just like Him in His darkest hour He wanted us…WOW!!! Why did Jesus come DOWN from heaven? To give us heaven now…what is the will of the Father? He wants us to know who we are…His son…He wants us to know our purpose in this life…thirst for more of God and one another. When you and I know who we are in Christ Jesus we will be givers and NOT takers, we will accept and in NO wise cast out any…this is heaven of earth…make it happen and just like Gator-Ade…is it in you, yes He is so NEVER send anyone away thirsty, give them something to drink…give them you!
Point to Ponder
Will you follow the Shepherd? [Psa 23:5 NIV] You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. I don’t know call me crazy but if God prepared the meal maybe He wants us to sit down together and eat so by the end of the meal we can call each other friends…bread of life NOT death.
Let us NEVER doubt His love, In Him Phil
