Good morning, all!
Father, we are in need of Your spirit and Your wisdom today. We find ourselves feeling empty and in need of more of You, more of Your word, more faith. Fill us Lord, show us You’re all we need and help us to chase You and nothing else, Amen. You ever feel empty even when you appear to have everything?
Isaiah 24
1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
God tells us to LOOK, which means He’s going to show us something. And who empties the earth out? THE LORD!!! Who’s scattered as a result of this act?
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
You suppose there’s a hidden message here? Or perhaps the opposite? The giver and the taker? The buyer and the seller? Hmm…who does that leave out?
3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
Call me crazy but the Lord hath spoken this word…He makes good on His promise…UTTERLY means there’s nothing left.
5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
Looks like the earth was filled with the wrong stuff…we changed the ordinance and broke an eternal promise…no wonder God emptied it out, can you blame Him?
Bottom line
I hope you can see the love of God in this passage of scripture, remember if God takes it away it can’t be good for us. What earth is He emptying?
[Isa 32:6 KJV] For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. The Lord will empty the soul of mankind, and not just anyone but according to verse 2 God includes everyone…the world. What is the error that you and I speak to God? Pretty simple actually, we tell the Lord NO! He tells us to love people and we practice hypocrisy, He tells us to forgive but our heart works iniquity. Now, none us would actually tell God NO to His face, we do it with our lifestyle…the very soul God will empty out. The truth is without God we’ll never feel complete, there will always be a void. Our problem is we try to fill that void with a lot of other things in our life or even activities, but it will be to NO avail. I mean think about it, is there anything we could substitute for God that would make us happy?
[Ecc 2:11 NIV] Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Funny but we chase everything and everyone and according to the word it’s like chasing the wind…meaningless. The only way to be happy is by chasing God, there’s nothing we could possibly substitute that would give us peace and a life filled. And I believe God will empty us of all the works of our hands and all that we’ve toiled over…spent our time worrying about…verse 5 says the earth is DEFILED…that’s us. What made us defiled in the eyes of God? He says we changed the ordinance and broke the covenant. We change our ordinance (the rules we use to govern our life) when we don’t live by faith, instead we live by the seat of our emotions.
[Heb 11:6 KJV] But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. What does a life of faith look like? One, I know without it I can’t please God and two, I know if I seek Him diligently (that means FIRST) He rewards me. And what’s the covenant we broke?
[Jer 3:14 KJV] Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: MARRIAGE…We break the covenant because we backslide, which means we’re rebellious. Why do you think God calls us children? We’re just immature, we want life our way instead of God’s way. The world might be able to get divorced but with God that’s not possible, He is the faithful Husband and will empty us until He’s the only thing left in our life.
Point to Ponder
What does His marriage look like? [Isa 54:5 KJV] For thy Maker [is] thine husband; the LORD of hosts [is] his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. FOREVER and the Maker of marriage will REDEEM us from all our troubles and that includes the WHOLE earth…that deserves an Amen!
Let’s all empty ourselves of everything but God, In Him Phil
