Good morning all! Father, we pray that we might truly find our delight in You. That we would trust in the power of Your love and believe in the perfection of Your word. I pray no matter what we face to today, we find our joy which can only be found in You, help us to see Your goodness always, amen. Do you delight in the Lord?
Psalm 37
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; [so] shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
You know why we trust God? Because He will FEED us so we can LIVE.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
You know why we’re happy to have a relationship with God? Because He touches our hearts.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.
You know why we’re committed to this relationship? Because He will make it happen…salvation…protection…provision…hope!
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
You know HOW we can rest and not worry about the crazy going on all around us even when it might LOOK like it benefits others?
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Rest is FOUND when I don’t respond to the crazy that’s going on, I don’t get angry, I don’t worry, and I don’t try to respond…I leave it to GOD!
Bottom Line
So what is David saying here? When we have a relationship with God and NOT some cold heartless religion but a real relationship that has our days filled with His word, prayers and meditation…a commitment to the relationship. That’s when we can CEASE from anger, anyone angry at some of the events in your life? Sure, but God knows better, and He knows that it will have a negative effect on our life. When anger rises, we start to look at the offense instead of our relationship with God. Think about it, it starts with TRUST…you do have to trust Him, which means we trust His word…direction for how we should live life. What should we do after we trust God? DELIGHT!!! What part of delight includes us being angry? Isn’t that the exact opposite? I know we think we’re entitled to a RIGHTEOUS anger, right? Poppycock…I think that word means complete and utter nonsense.
[Jas 1:20 NIV] Because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Anger has NO place in the life of a believer, you know for those that trust and delight in God. I can hear it now, I’m NOT angry I’m annoyed…yeah, I’m sure that’s how God sees it. Didn’t God say don’t repay evil with evil? Didn’t he ask us if we had enough strength and maturity to suffer a wrong? David is sharing a life lesson here, he knows true peace can only come when he COMMITS the way he lives his life to God ALONE. Now I’m not naïve to think we’re never going to get angry about something, it will happen but when it does we can CEASE from it. We have to let it go and NOT let it influence or shape what we say or how we respond. Instead be quick to hear and SLOW to speak, how slow? Maybe somethings we take to the grave because we’re so slow, and maybe God considers that a mature relationship. Proverbs says a fool shows their annoyance at once, but the faithful overlook a hurt. Anger simply put is the visible emotion of PRIDE, it’s a response to an offense. Now if you’re like me you might think you can’t let it go unchecked, right? After all it might happen again if I don’t say anything, right? Do you trust God’s word over your annoyances? God said WAIT…DON’T respond, what next? DON’T fret…don’t worry about it…this is when trust is tested, if fact, maybe that’s the sole purpose for the difficulty you face? God shows us we have a great relationship and He will bring all things to PASS…NOT you. You ever do a trust fall?
[Jhn 10:29 NLT] For my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No man can snatch them from the Father’s hand. He is more powerful than anyone you know, and NO man can remove you from God’s grip so let Him hold you and try not to fret about anything.
Point to Ponder
Is anger a sin? [Pro 29:22 NIV] An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. It’s only a sin when we don’t cease otherwise it leads to many sins, don’t be lead astray.
Let’s all delight in the Lord, In Him Phil
